Senior Category Manager
The Senior Category Manager, R&D Emerging Solutions will shape and deliver solutions for new and emerging services in R&D. Typically, the new services represent innovations or novel approaches in the market that have not previously been purchased and contracted by J&J. New services currently in scope to the role include R&D Data Science and R&D Site Support services. The Emerging Solutions team is agile and is designed to address new needs as the business needs and industry evolve. The Senior Category Manager will:
Shape solutions and closely partner with the business, internal Subject Matter Experts, and others in Procurement. Understand the market and keeps current with market changes which are expected to be frequent. Create a category strategy or approach for each new service and document insights. Interact with many levels in R&D including executives. Gain trust and credibility with internal stakeholders and suppliers. Guide suppliers who are new to working with J&J on policies and processes. Create and implement a supplier governance structure for the most critical 2-5 suppliers. Negotiate the commercial terms for Master Service Agreements or Single Service Agreements and partner with SMEs to address their requirements in contracts. Partner closely with R&D Legal department to develop new legal engagement frameworks for new services. Run sourcing events as needed Manage and develop one direct report and provide guidance to several contractors supporting the team. Qualifications Minimum of a BA/BS is required in business, life sciences or related field is required. Advanced degree, such as an MBA, Ph.D., JD, etc. is preferred. Minimum 8 years in a business environment is required with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Procurement or 5 years of experience working closely with Procurement. Prior supervisory/people management experience is preferred. Experience in the pharmaceutical R&D industry and a working knowledge of drug development or clinical trials is preferred. Experience with presenting to teams of various sizes including influencing a team or leadership when needed required. Experience with closely partnering internally and externally is required. Experience with contract negotiations and supplier relationship management (formally and informally) is required. Experience with analyzing moderately complex data is strongly preferred. Experience with writing category strategies or coaching others to do so is preferred. Ability to lead a sourcing event and category strategy is required. Ability to rapidly understand complex requirements for a set of supplier services and translate them into clear contractual deliverables. Ability to prioritize and act with a sense of urgency. Demonstrated continuous growth and learning and application of the learnings is required. Travel of approximately 10%.
Salary Range:
$100K -- $150K
