The position forms part of Disease Area Stronghold (DAS) for Pulmonary Leadership Team at Janssen, with specific responsibility for activities within the clinical discipline of Pulmonology and shared responsibility with the Leadership team for the overall development and delivery of the strategy of the Pulmonary DAS. The position represents excellence in Clinical Science and Development within this discipline. Development and Clinical responsibilities include the design, implementation and reporting of Global phase II and phase III clinical trials, input into Phase 1 clinical trial design, support of regulatory submissions, advice to Discovery, Clinical Pharmacology, Medical Affairs and Commercial, and Business Development support, each of these within the Pulmonology clinical discipline.
In this role, the Head of Development may be asked to serve as the clinical/development representative responsible for collaboration support with partners for compounds in Pulmonary indications.
The position currently encompasses direct and indirect management responsibility for MD/PhD level reports and other department employees in the United States (Compound Development Leaders, Clinical Scientists, and Physicians) as agreed with the DASL. The role will also provide oversight to development staff in England. Retains membership in the Immunology Development Committee, Immunology Protocol Committee, and Immunology Clinical/Regulatory Stage Gate Committee as applicable.
Qualifications
An M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in Pulmonary and/or Allergy/Immunology discipline with a focus on clinical research in Pulmonary diseases is required. 8
years experience including line management (preferably global) and a strong record of accomplishments in disease specific clinical research, translational research/medicine and clinical development as evidenced by peer reviewed publications, patents, leadership in scientific organizations, successful record of drug discovery and/or development for immune-mediated diseases is required. This person should be recognized as an R&D leader in allergy and/or pulmonary diseases. A strong publication record is required. A demonstrated accomplishment in drug development including progressing new projects into the pipeline and product approvals is required. Strong leadership skills with highly collaborative instincts are required. People management experience is required. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with basic and clinical scientists, including biologists, pharmacologists, as well as with regulatory, clinical and commercial colleagues is required. This position is located in Spring House, PA.
